In conclusion, after the dog was diagnosed with canine dermatitis, she started to show symptoms that indicated she had also developed a tick-borne disease. The symptoms included hair loss around her mouth, which eventually progressed into a bald spot on the top of her head. Because this wasn’t a life-threatening condition, it was initially treated with flea and tick prevention, and then an oral antibiotic, which helped with the hair loss. But once the hair returned, it grew back thicker than before. She’s also developed a couple of infections at the site where the hair was removed, so now we’re going to have to treat her with an oral anti-fungal medication, which is the same treatment used to treat ringworm in humans.
